Bareboat Charter Captain's Rules and Regulations

1. General Responsibilities

2. Qualifications

3. Safety and Compliance

Ensure the vessel complies with all safety regulations and is equipped with required safety gear. Conduct regular safety drills and briefings with crew and passengers. Maintain a logbook documenting all navigational, operational, and safety activities.

4. Passenger Conduct

Enforce the vessel’s capacity limits strictly. Prohibit illegal activities onboard including the transportation of illegal substances or engaging in unauthorized commercial activities. Ensure that smoking and open flames are strictly controlled as per the vessel’s policies. Prevent overboarding and ensure that all passengers and crew act within the safety protocols, especially concerning entry into and exit from the water.

5. Environmental Compliance

Implement environmentally responsible practices to minimize pollution and comply with environmental regulations. Manage waste and disposal according to maritime environmental standards.

6. Operational Integrity

The Captain full say in the operation of the vessel, including itinerary changes due to weather, mechanical issues, or safety concerns. Communicate effectively with the charterer and crew to ensure clarity in all operational decisions.

7. Emergency Handling

Must handle emergencies with competence and calm, ensuring the safety of all onboard. Coordinate with local authorities and conduct evacuations if necessary.

8. Insurance and Documentation

Ensure all necessary insurances and coverages are in place and valid. Keep all vessel documentation up to date and accessible.

9. Conflict Resolution

Handle disputes or conflicts onboard professionally. Report any significant issues to the charter company in a timely manner.

10. End of Charter Procedures

Conduct a thorough check of the vessel at the end of each charter to assess for any damages or issues. Provide a detailed report to the owner or charter company regarding the vessel’s condition and any incidents that occurred during the charter. Penalties for Non-Compliance Non-compliance with these regulations may result in fines, termination of the charter without a refund, and possible legal actions depending on the severity of the violation.
